PASSING OUT CEREMONY AT CSSM

Chennai School of Ship Management conducted Passing Out function for the candidates of Batch-9A who have completed the three years Marine Engineering course under the Alternate Training Scheme (ATS), on 18th August 2009..

Dr.Raju Arumugam, Regional Senior Vice-President, The Shipping Corporation of India, Chennai presided over the function as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates to the passing out cadets. Shri T.G.Venkatraman, Founder-CSSM was present as the Guest of Honour for the function.

Shri Young, Electrical Officer-CSSM, presented the welcome speech.. Shri G.V.Ramanigopal, Managing Director, CSSM introduced the Chief Guest and addressed the gathering. He highlighted the developments taken place at CSSM over the years and was proud in announcing that CSSM has stepped into the 12th batch of ATS recently. He added that CSSM is the only institution to conduct ATS in India and CSSM is able to generate skilled marine engineers every year through ATS. He informed that the on-board training arranged by CSSM for the cadets during the second year (Phase-2) of ATS play vital part for the cadets in their job placements as they are able to acquire full knowledge about the maintenance of the shipboard machineries. He was happy to announce that CSSM cadets are found more suitable by the shipping companies training them in second year and placing them further as Junior engineers.

Shri S.Krishnaswamy, Asst.Professor-CSSM presented CSSM report and highlighted the achievements of CSSM and its Cadets in the last year with special remark on the first rank secured by CSSM cadets in the technical paper presentation organized by the Institute of Marine Engineers (India), Chennai in July 2009. Cadets T.P.Nasaf and Mohd.Jufali were adjudged the Best for their paper presentation on Pure Ballast. Cadets Aravind and Vineet Chandran secured 4th place for their paper presentation on Waste Heat Recovery. He also highlighted the efforts taken by CSSM Management and technical staff in preparing the Cadets on a project work during the final year training and quoted that such an assignment will be an added benefit to the Cadets when they go for employment. He appreciated the Cadets for establishing their skills in all the areas and thanked the Management and Coordinators for offering their support and guidance to the Cadets.

Cadet Hemant Kumar was the Gold Medalist for his overall performance in Phase-1 & Phase-3 and he was given Thiru V.Gopala Gounder award with Cash Prize of Rs.1,001/- and a Trophy. Cadet B.Aravind was the Silver Medalist for his overall performance. Cadet Hemant Kumar was also adjudged the Best Cadet for his Officer-like Qualities and was awarded a Trophy.

The Chief Guest, Dr.Raju Arumugam, in his addressing speech, appreciated the Cadets for completing their training at CSSM. He remarked CSSM a Global Ship Management because the CSSM cadets are proving their excellence globally. He congratulated the CSSM Management for offering their multi-faceted efforts in bringing CSSM a well recognized institution across the globe. He added that CSSM can never be comparable with other institutes in terms of its growth. While wishing the boys for venturing into the high seas, he advised them to carry the quality and heritage all over the universe through their skilled outputs. He praised the parents for their valuable contribution to the nation through their boys. He stressed that through such services, the nation’s economy is built up. He stressed the importance of a good communication that is required on-board, being an engineer and pepped up the boys to accept the challenges and requirements of the shipping industry. He praised the boys for the outstanding exhibition in the projects carried out by them and he appreciated the faculty members for bringing out the skills of trainees and grooming them as professionals. He concluded his speech with a praise and wishes to one and all.
